Our Mission
We
at the Paracelsus Biological Medicine Network are dedicated
to the vision of healing embodied by Paracelsus Biological
Medicine. Our mission is to make this medicine available to
the vast numbers of Americans who are bewildered by and dissatisfied
with the conventional medical options presented to them. The
Paracelsus Biological Medicine Network represents PBM in the
US: we educate patients, train practitioners, coordinate referrals,
cultivate the ever-growing community of PBM patients, manage
publications, and create strategies to disseminate this invaluable
information.

The PBMN is a non-profit organization. If you would like to
help PBM flourish in the United States via a donation, please

Our Founders
Dr. Rau co-founded the Paracelsus Biological Medicine Network
with Michael and Margie Baldwin in 1997. The Baldwins first
learned about the Paracelsus Klinik during their search for
help for their son Nathaniel, who was being treated for leukemia.
In 1993, when he was about to turn 13, Nathaniel was diagnosed
with cancer. He underwent three rounds of chemotherapy, followed
by a bone-marrow transplant from his sister. When he developed
a complication from the transplant that reduced his lung capacity
by 50%, the Baldwins began to search for ways to reverse this
loss and rebuild Nathaniel's immune system. They read about
the Paracelsus Klinik in a magazine article and were persuaded
that it held the potential to reverse some of the chemotherapy’s
after-effects, perhaps even to improve the loss of Nathaniel's
lung function (which had been declared permanent by his oncologist
and physicians at home). They spoke with Dr. Rau and decided
that when Nathaniel was well enough they would travel to Switzerland
and visit the clinic. On that visit, and in three subsequent
visits, they experienced an intense immersion into the Paracelsus
Biological Medicine model. Twelve years after that initial visit
Nathaniel has graduated from college and is living a normal,
healthy, active life with 97% of his lung capacity. He continues
to have annual check-ups at the Paracelsus Klinik with Dr.
Rau. For a more in-depth look at the Baldwin's story see the
PBS Body and Soul Series: “Healing
Places”
The
Baldwins realized that they were privileged participants in
an exciting "new" medical paradigm. Moreover, they
recognized that the medical director of the clinic, Dr. Thomas
Rau, was not only a brilliant physician, but also an accomplished
scientist, researcher, teacher, and healer who had much to
offer patients and practitioners in the United States. What
began as a personal journey became a comprehensive program
to make Paracelsus Biological Medicine much more available
in North America through the organization of the Paracelsus
Biological Medicine Network (PBMN).
